McMillen chair to be honored with Parsons' Excellence Award.


Parsons The New School for Design Parsons has approximately 3,100 undergraduates and more than 400 graduate students enrolled. The School also offers continuing education courses and certificate programs, as well as weekend and summer pre-college programs for high school students.  will honor acclaimed interior designer Betty Sherrill, chairman of McMillen Inc., with the second Parsons Centurion Award for Design Excellence as the school celebrates the centennial of its interior design program. The award will be bestowed at a benefit luncheon at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of

The award was created to pay tribute to Parsons alumni and industry leaders who have significantly contributed to society through their work in design.

Under the leadership of Frank Alva Parsons, Parsons established the first program in interior design in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  in 1906 and defined the parameters of a new and growing industry in this country. Over the past century, Parsons has educated the best and brightest talent in the field, including Sheila Bridges, Mario Buatta, Angelo Donghia, Jamie Drake, Eleanor McMillen Brown, Melvin Dwork, Victoria Hagan, Lulu de Kwiatkowski, Juan Montoya, Betty Sherrill, Van Day Truex and Albert Hadley.

A native of New Orleans New Orleans (ôr`lēənz –lənz, ôrlēnz`), city (2006 pop. 187,525), coextensive with Orleans parish, SE La., between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, 107 mi (172 km) by water from the river mouth; founded , Betty Stevens Sherrill attended Parsons in 1949 and in 1951 became an assistant to the president of McMillen Inc., one of the most successful interior design firms in the country. Founded in 1923 by Parsons alumna Eleanor McMillen Brown, McMillen Inc. was the first professional, full-service interior design firm in America. Sherrill became McMillen's president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  in 1975 and today serves as its chairman.

Hosted by New School president Bob Kerry and Parsons dean Paul Goldberger Paul Goldberger (born in 1950 in Passaic, New Jersey) is an American Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic. He is well known for his "Sky Line" column in The New Yorker. , the luncheon will pay tribute to Sherrill and McMillen Inc.
