Software to Bring Engineering Best Practices to Key Oil-Sands Projects and Refining Operations

Petro-Canada will use the product to drive document-management best practices across the company - with a special focus on key oil-sands projects. The large-scale roll-out follows Petro-Canada's earlier limited-scope deployments of Enterprise Engineer, as well as an extensive pilot at its Fort Hills oil-sands project.

According to Muir, McLaren's Enterprise Engineer application suite will allow Petro-Canada to "manage engineering content, as well as the work processes that produce and use this content." In other words, Enterprise Engineer will support the company's engineering processes by providing a single point of controlled access to manage items like CAD drawings, standard-operating procedures, correspondences, email and specifications throughout the lifecycle of an asset or project.

Muir goes on to point out that Enterprise Engineer features built-in business rules, processes and security tools, which he says "will allow Petro-Canada to automate the use of engineering content across the company and with third-party contractors and customers."
