Loving, but feeling alienated from her mother, she decides to ask Dumpling to come along on an extended trip to a family reunion Often an annual event, a family reunion takes place on a specified day each year for the purpose of keeping an extended family closer together. Some reunions may be held less often. . The result is an extraordinary journey into a mother-daughter relationship and an incredible "fiction-within-fiction" tale. Sherry is a budding writer and uses bits and pieces of what her mother has told her about her ancestral family to create a novel. Dumpling begins to read the novel on the trip and is entranced.
