 McDONNELL DOUGLAS HONORS 45 INDIVIDUALS
 WITH THE SPIRIT OF EXCELLENCE AWARD
 ST. LOUIS, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) honored 45 individuals with the corporation's highest honor, the Spirit of Excellence Award, in ceremonies here July 27.
 Established in 1989, the Spirit of Excellence honor includes crystal awards for the winners that symbolizes their dedication to quality, their promise of customer satisfaction, and their commitment to continuous improvement. Employees and suppliers were recognized with both the award and McDonnell Douglas stock at a reception and dinner here July 27.
 "These winners display determination, ingenuity and perseverance. They expect the best from themselves and they accept no less from others," said John F. McDonnell, the company's chairman and chief executive officer.
 This year's recipients include three individuals and five teams.
 In the Mesa area, the McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Co.'s NOTAR(TM) System Design team received a Spirit of Excellence Award. The team members are: Gary Craig, Chuong Le, Lowell Pester, Glenn Pyle, Carlo Rao, and Robert Roesch all of Mesa, Ariz.; Marie Dwyer, David Mittleider, and James Van Horn of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Daniel Nyhus of Gilbert, Ariz.; Joe Musco of Tempe, Ariz., and John Albin of Clinton, Mo.
 The NOTAR(TM) System Design Team was honored for doing what was thought to be impossible: designing a helicopter with no tail rotor. Three years of dedication, commitment to quality, and determination paid off as orders for the MD 520N now pour into the company.
