McDONNELL DOUGLAS FORMS TEAM FOR BLOCK II PROGRAM
MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD)

today announced it has formed a team consisting of McDonnell Douglas Electronic Systems Co. (MDESC), TRW, Hughes Aircraft Co., COMARCO and Software Analysis and Management Inc. (SAMCO) to pursue the U.S. Army's All Source Analysis System (ASAS) Block II program opportunity.
The All Source Analysis System is the Intelligence node of the U.S. Army Tactical Command and Control System, (ATCCS), designed to provide field commanders up to date intelligence data to assist in battlefield decisions.
The Block II ASAS Program will rehost Block I software on new Block II Common Hardware (CHS II), create expanded functionality through additional software development, and utilize an open architecture design that permits future rehosting onto more advanced hardware and supports efficient future software development for enhanced functionality.
"MDESC and teammates TRW, Hughes Aircraft Co., COMARCO and SAMCO bring to the program a set of skills and expertise that can't be matched," said MDESC Executive Vice President R.R. Erkeneff. "With the team's combined experience in hardware and software integration, software development in the Ada programming language, message handling, multi-level security and the other ATCCS components, we have demonstrated outstanding past performance and customer satisfaction. We are eager to continue our involvement in the ASAS program."
MDESC has been delivering and providing field support for Mobile Tactical C3I systems for over 15 years and is a leader in advancing and applying technology to secure message processing and handling systems and information fusion applications. MDESC was a major contributor to the software development for the ASAS Block I program. The company is also well known for Artificial Intelligence and Neural Network systems.
TRW is the Army's premier ATCCS/ACCS contractor, playing a major role in six of the eight Army major C3I programs. The company is also the largest developer of Ada software in the United States, having developed over 4.5 million lines of delivered Ada code.
COMARCO provides major test support to the Electronic Proving Grounds at Ft. Hauchuca, providing a full range of test support on the ATCCS command and control and related communications systems. COMARCO also provides support to the ASAS Block I testing activity at Ft. Hood, Texas.
Hughes Aircraft Co. has extensive experience defining, implementing and supporting complex distributed C3 systems and is known as one of the industry leaders in Ada software development for real-time systems. The company has a long legacy in DoD tactical C3 systems, to many of which the ASAS system will interface.
SAMCO brings more than 150 man-years of ASAS experience to the team in the area of software development.
