McDONALD'S CREATES 'DINO-SIZED' VALUES FOR 'DINO-SIZED' APPETITES

OAK BROOK, Ill., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- It's the biggest thing to happen at McDonald's in 65 million years.
In conjunction with the upcoming release of Steven Spielberg's production of "Jurassic Park," McDonald's will introduce a new concept in the quick-service restaurant industry called "Dino-Sizing."
Beginning June 4, customers with "gigantic" appetites can purchase larger -- or "Dino-Sized" -- food items at value prices and receive a free, vividly graphic "Jurassic Park" collectors cup depicting scenes from the movie.
"We think Dino-Mania will sweep the country this summer and our customers will be able to have fun with it right in our restaurants," says David Green, McDonald's senior vice president of marketing. "In addition to providing great values and taste with our Dino-Sized meals, our restaurants will be transformed into `Official Visitor's Centers of Jurassic Park' with in-store materials that depict the excitement and look of the film."
 "DINO-SIZING" MEANS BIG THINGS
A "`Jurassic Park' Dino-Sized Extra Value Meal" will include a triple cheeseburger, french fries in a specially designed "Dino-Sized" fry box that is larger than the standard McDonald's large fry box, and a 32-ounce drink served in one of six exclusive "Jurassic Park" collectors cups. Both the fry box and a carry-out bag feature "Jurassic Park" graphics and facts about dinosaurs.
Illustrated by Mark Stutzman, designer of the Elvis Presley stamp, the four-color collectors cups each provide a dramatic illustration of a different dinosaur from the movie and are free with any "Jurassic Park" Extra Value Meal or large drink purchase.
Customers can also "Dino-Size" their favorite Extra Value Meal and receive "Dino-Sized" french fries and a 32-ounce drink in one of the collectors cups. Marketing support of the McDonald's "Jurassic Park" promotion will include in-store POP and national advertising, to begin Tuesday, June 1.
1993 IS YEAR OF THE DINOSAUR AT McDONALD'S
The "Jurassic Park" promotion is one of several dinosaur-related activities in which McDonald's is involved this year.
McDonald's, along with MCA/Universal, Amblin Entertainment and the American Museum of Natural History in New York, produced an education curriculum and poster designed to instruct high school students about dinosaur history and DNA research as depicted in the movie "Jurassic Park." The educational materials were distributed free to 20,000 high schools in the U.S. earlier this year.
McDonald's is the leading foodservice retailer in the global marketplace, with more than 13,000 restaurants in 66 countries. About 80 percent of McDonald's restaurant businesses are locally owned and operated by independent entrepreneurs.
