McDONALD'S BRINGS 'BATMAN RETURNS' EXCITEMENT TO CUSTOMERS THIS SUMMER
 OAK BROOK, Ill., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonald's brings the aura and excitement of "Batman Returns" to its customers this summer in one of the largest promotional partnerships in entertainment history.
 Beginning June 12, more than 9,000 McDonald's restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada will become "the official restaurants of Gotham City(TM)," offering customers Batman(TM) Happy Meals and six "Batman Returns" Collector Cups that feature realistic renderings of characters and scenes from the movie. Each cup comes with a snap-off Batdisc lid, similar to some of the latest


gadgetry used in "Batman Returns." McDonald's will replace traditional red french-fry containers with dramatic black and white packaging that bears the image of "Batman Returns" characters, as well as fun facts about the new movie.
 "We anticipate that 'Batman Returns' will be the single largest blockbuster of the summer, so we're bringing a bit of the movie's magic to our restaurants by creating a promotion that has something for every member of the family," said David Green, McDonald's senior vice president of marketing. "McDonald's has a special relationship with our customers, and we're committed to giving them what they want." Advertising support for McDonald's promotion began June 9 with commercials highlighting the restaurants' "Batman Returns" Collector Cup/Batdisc lid offer. Shot on the Warner Bros. soundstage during the actual production of "Batman Returns," McDonald's advertising incorporates a special effects technique called Morphing to transform live action sequences from "Batman Returns" into the characters featured on McDonald's cups.
 "We're delighted by the degree to which McDonald's is supporting its participation in 'Batman Returns' with unique offers, advertising and in-store decor," commented Dan Romanelli, Warner Bros. president of worldwide consumer products, and Rob Friedman, president of worldwide theatrical advertising and publicity. "With 18 million customers each day, McDonald's is a perfect partner for us to bring 'Batman Returns' to the widest possible audience."
 Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer are in "Batman Returns," starring Chirstopher Walken, Michael Gough, Pat Hingle and Michael Murphy. The film is produced by Denise Di Novi and Tim Burton and directed by Tim Burton. The executive producers are Jon Peters, Peter Guber, Benjamin Melnicker and Michael Uslan, and the co-producer is Larry Franco. The screenplay is by Daniel Waters from a story by Daniel Waters and Sam Hamm, based upon Batman characters created by Bob Kane and published by DC Comics. The director of photography is Stefan Czapsky, the production designer is Bo Welch and the film editor is Chris Lebenzon. Music is by Danny Elfman.
