), the expert provider of multi-capable storage networking solutions, has announced that its Eclipse 1620 SAN Router has successfully completed interoperability testing under the IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  TotalStorage Proven program. The testing included the IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller (SVC (1) (Switched Virtual Circuit) A network connection that is established at the time the transmission is required and disconnected when the session is completed. ) product with copy services Copy services is a term used in IBM storage systems, to describe a group of services that provide a method of copying or moving data from one location to another.

Generally a source and target logical disk are required. Data is copied or moved form the source to the target.

and cost. IP is also emerging as the protocol of choice in the mushrooming Remote Replication and Data Mirroring space.

Today, customers requiring cost effective business continuance/data protection solutions over long distance can implement the McDATA Eclipse SAN router with IBM's SVC technology to route data between an IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server (ESS) and IBM TotalStorage FAStT storage array.

Used together, the products allow fibre channel (FC) data to be distributed over IP Wide Area Networks (WAN) for a cost-effective, on demand data protection solution. McDATA's SecureConnect SAN Routing technology included in the Eclipse SAN Router enables customers to securely share data or consolidate resources between existing SANs, with little to no administrative overhead. Utilization of IP services with remote copy underscores the principals of an on demand business environment by improving IT infrastructure flexibility, optimization and access to resources by aligning IT with business goals.  utilizes the standards-based protocols featured in multiple McDATA Eclipse SAN Routers, enabling SVC PPRC to work between ESS and a FAStT arrays to extend storage connectivity over distance.

McDATA's Eclipse SAN Router provides standards-based multi-vendor environments. When it is connected to IP backbones, FC fabrics, or other end-systems, the Eclipse SAN Router can support protocols such as iSCSI, iFCP and E_Port. McDATA's Fast Write technology reduces overhead transport costs associated with data movement over distances and allows for Fast or Gigabit Ethernet connectivity.

"McDATA has been providing leading edge protocol transparency and secure SAN Router products since 2003," said Peter Dougherty, vice president of switch platforms, McDATA. "Customers have asked for best-of-breed products that break down distance and interoperability barriers, and with the McDATA and IBM products they have it today."

The McDATA Eclipse SAN router will be available for sale through IBM Global Services IBM Global Services is the world's largest business and technology services provider. It is the fastest growing part of IBM, with over 190,000 professionals serving customers in more than 160 countries.  and McDATA business partners, resellers and distributors.
