The original building was designed by Ellis F. Lawrence as part of his "main university quadrangle," now known as the Memorial Quadrangle. at the University of Oregon will open "Faux or for Real," a show about authenticity in visual art, on Sept. 30. Art in the exhibition will include paintings once attributed to Francisco Goya and Gerhard ter Borch and original watercolors by Auguste Rodin, as well as forged watercolors attributed to him. There also will be photographs by Edward Weston and a grouping of Asian sculpture and decorative arts decorative arts, term referring to a variety of applied visual arts, both two- and three-dimensional, including textiles, metalwork, ceramics, books, and woodwork, as well as to certain aspects of architecture (see ornament), public buildings, and private houses (see . The exhibit continues through Feb. 4. Also opening Sept. 30 at the museum is "To See Big Within Small," a show of "microcarvings" by contemporary artist Chen Zhongsen. That exhibit runs through Jan. 28. The Karin Clarke Gallery, 760 Willamette St., is leading off the fall season with a new show of paintings by the late David McCosh, who taught painting at the University of Oregon. "Collaborations With My Subject: Works From 1928-1969' opened this week and is curated by Roger Saydack. The McCosh show runs through Oct. 28; it consists of still lifes and landscapes and includes works on paper and oil paintings on canvas. From Oct. 31 through Nov. 25, the gallery will have a show of new plein-air painting by Eugene artist Bets Cole, Portland artist Joan Darling and Salem artist Susan Trueblood Stuart. The final show of the fall at the Clarke gallery will be oil paintings by Adam Grosowsky, joined by watercolors by his mother, Vera Grosowsky. Adam Grosowsky is a popular Eugene painter whose work has been selling very well both here and in galleries in Aspen and Vail. Their show will run from Nov. 28 through Dec. 30. White Lotus White Lotus Chinese Buddhist millenarian movement that was often persecuted because of its association with rebellion. The movement had roots in 4th-century worship of the Buddha Amitabha, whose devotional cult inspired Mao Ziyuan to form the White Lotus Society, a pious Gallery, 767 Willamette St., has a show of gallery regulars, including Jon Jay Cruson, Nonie Fish, Helen Liu, Connie Mueller, Jamie Newton, Satoko and Maurice Van, through Oct. 10. The gallery will feature new work by Nancy Pobanz from Oct. 14 through Nov. 18 and a show of jewelry by Christine Sundt from Nov. 21-25. "Katazome: Japanese Stencil stencil, cutout device of oiled or shellacked tough and resistant paper, thin metal, or other material used in applying paint, dye, or ink to reproduce its design or lettering upon a surface. Dyeing Fiberarts" by Karen Miller runs from Nov. 28 through Dec. 2. The gallery closes out the fall with a show of holiday pottery, up Dec. 5-30. Opus6ix gallery, 22 W. Seventh Ave., will open a show of work by Anne Tiegen about dining alone in October, along with an exhibit of black and white photography by local photographers. In December the gallery will have "The Best of Oregon Crafted" and "Small Things." Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts, 110 W. Broadway, has a number of exhibits scheduled for the community art center's seven galleries. DIVA is showing "The Edge Effect," the center's first all-member exhibition. Shows opening in November and running through December include "Elements," work by Oregon Fiber Artists; "Figured State(d) Figure" by C. Delaittre; "Mysterium Cosmographicum," a show of prints by Eugene artist Tallmadge Doyle; "Phantasms" by Judith Sander of Philomath; and work by Paul Shirkey. Maude Kerns Art Center, 1910 E . 15th Ave., will open "Fast Forward: The Mayor's Show of Teen Art" with a reception at 6 p.m. Friday. The show continues through Oct. 6. Emerald Art Center, 500 Main St., Springfield, has `Southwest Medleys,' a show of watercolors by the Opus 65 Group, through Sept. 29. That's followed on Oct. 7 by the Springfield Mayor's Art Show, which runs until Oct. 27, and "Immanent im·ma·nent adj. 1. Form," stone sculptures by Al Sieradski, which runs from Nov. 1 to Dec. 1. The Art Department Gallery at Lane Community College will open a show of work by LCC (Leadless Chip Carrier, Leaded Chip Carrier) See leadless chip carrier, CLCC and PLCC. 1. Relief sculpture by Eugene artist Miriam Kley will be shown in the gallery from Oct. 23 through Nov. 9, and a show of gouache gouache (gwäsh): see watercolor painting. gouache Opaque watercolour. The Portland Art Museum, 1219 S.W. Park Ave., Portland, is now showing the Oregon Biennial, an invitational show of art by 34 Oregon artists. The show wraps up Oct. 8. The big show of the year at the museum will be "The Quest for Immortality: Treasures of Ancient Egypt," which opens Nov. 5 and runs through March 4. The exhibit, organized by the National Gallery of Art, contains antiquities on loan from the Egyptian government. |
