 McCORD RETIRING AS VP, REFINING;
 MARATHON ELECTS SPINDLER TO REPLACE McCORD
 HOUSTON, May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Marathon Oil Company announced today that Manfred Spindler has been elected vice president, Refining, effective July 1, 1992.
 He succeeds Richard K. McCord, who is retiring after 38 years of service with Marathon.
 Spindler, 53, was born in Chemnitz, Germany. He graduated in 1959 from Berlin's Engineering College with a degree in chemical engineering. In 1966 Spindler joined Marathon as a process engineer at the company's former refinery in Burghausen, West Germany. After holding a number of supervisory positions at that refinery, he was named plant manager in 1985.
 In 1986, Spindler was transferred to Findlay, Ohio, as manager, refining engineering. The following year he was promoted to manager of the Illinois Refining Division in Robinson, Ill. Spindler returned to Findlay in 1990 to assume his most recent position as coordinating manager, Refining.
 McCord, 60, was born in Ottawa, Canada, and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1954 with B.S. degrees in mathematics and chemical engineering.
 He joined Marathon in 1954 at the Detroit Refinery, and in 1961 was appointed manager of operations there. He became manager of technical services in Detroit in 1965, and the following year transferred to Burghausen, West Germany, as operations superintendent at Marathon's refinery there.
 McCord returned to the United States to assume responsibility as manager of the Texas Refining Division in Texas City until 1977 when he moved to Findlay, Ohio, as manager of administration services and corporate employee relations in the Finance & Administration organization. In 1982 he was named assistant to the president of Marathon Oil Company, and in 1983 he assumed the position of manager of marketing operations. In 1984 he was elected vice president, Refining, and a director of Marathon Petroleum Company.
 McCord is a member of the American Petroleum Institute and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and is on the board of the National Petroleum Refiners Association.
