Exotic theories such as of "cold dark matter" have now been joined by desperate, contrived con·trived  
adj.
Obviously planned or calculated; not spontaneous or natural; labored: a novel with a contrived ending.

 fantasies of "self-interacting" and "just warm enough" dark matter. How many more decades are we to look for this mystery material before stopping to reconsider the theories of gravitation that call for this surrealistic sur·re·al·is·tic

1. Of or relating to surrealism.

2. Having an oddly dreamlike or unreal quality.

 stuff? If a theory calls for something to exist and after due diligence Research; analysis; your homework. This term has caught on in all industries, because it sounds so "wired." Who would want to do analysis or research when they can do due diligence. See wired.  this cannot be confirmed, this should reflect poorly on the theory--not necessarily on our powers of observation.
