Maxis Releases Streets of SimCity for Windows 95; New 3-D Driving Game Lets Players Cruise Through Dozens of Action-Packed Cities Including Their Own SimCity 2000 Metropolises.

WALNUT CREEK Walnut Creek, residential city (1990 pop. 60,569), Contra Costa co., W Calif., in the San Francisco Bay area; inc. 1914. It is the trade and shipping center of an extensive agricultural area where walnuts are among the major product. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 1997--Maxis(TM), an Electronic Arts(TM) company and publishers of the popular Sim line of games, today announced the release of Streets of SimCity Streets of SimCity is a 1997 racing and vehicular combat computer game published by Maxis. One of the game's main attractions was the ability to explore any cities created in SimCity 2000 (TM) (Streets). Streets sends players on rim-rattling races and combat missions on the roadways of the cities they built with the multimillion-selling SimCity 2000(TM). And because Streets comes packed with more than 50 pre-built cities, a race course editor and a variety of challenging missions -- SimCity 2000 is not required.

Players can get right into the action by simply selecting a city and difficulty level or they can tackle one of Streets' five hard-driving story lines. Each story contains a multitude of challenging missions: from urban drag races to combat courier jobs to undercover spy assignments. As they work their way through the story, drivers can use their earnings to buy new equipment, fuel-up and make repairs.

Streets features five fully customizable vehicles: a sub-compact, a delivery truck, a high-performance race car, a European roadster and a classic American muscle car. Using the car factory feature, players can design their own vehicles, choosing from a variety of frames, engines, tires and paint jobs. For combat intensive missions, players can add armor, oil-slick generators, machine guns, missile launchers, mine droppers and more.

"We've created Streets with the goal of giving players a totally customizable action experience. Players can customize their cars down to the paint jobs, create and import SimCity 2000 cities, even design racecourses," said Streets of SimCity producer Byrt Martinez. "Level-design has become quite a hobby with hard-core gamers. Now anyone can create levels with what has to be the easiest level-designer available -- SimCity 2000. In fact this is the first game where there were literally hundreds of 'levels' available on the Internet before its release."

With Streets' multiplayer mode, up to eight players can create a commuter's nightmare over the Internet or LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  and two players can go bumper-to-bumper with a direct modem connection.
