Maxis Releases SimCity 2000 for the Sony PlayStation.

It is the trade and shipping center of an extensive agricultural area where walnuts are among the major product. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 8, 1996--For console gamers interested in a fun break from blasting aliens and battling ninjas, Maxis today announced the release of its hit metropolis-building game SimCity A popular educational game for kids and adults for DOS and Macintosh from Electronic Arts, Inc., Redwood City, CA (www.thesims.ea.com). The game stays true to the computer version of SimCity 2000, but includes an all new feature which allows players to observe the inner workings of their cities in a 3D "ride-through" mode.

SimCity 2000 challenges players to design, build, and manage the city of their dreams while fending off potential fires, floods, and financial catastrophes. As the city grows in population and wealth, the player is presented with options on how to improve the metropolis. Would-be mayors must deal with such city quandaries as crime, traffic-congestion and natural disasters as they try to keep their citizens happy.

In addition to the first person ride-through mode, enhancements include improved building renderings and a new interface which makes optimal use of the PlayStation's game pad. An optional memory card is required to save multiple games.
