), a leading developer of advanced media systems, announced today that Dennis Media Group has installed the Company's award-winning 844/X editing system for lightning-fast compositing of unlimited layers. Dennis Media Group is the media production arm of Dennis Publishing Dennis Publishing Ltd. is one of the world’s leading independent publishers. Founded in 1974, the group consists of a number of operating companies in both the UK and USA, with a turnover exceeding £200 million a year. , innovator behind the stylishly popular Maxim Magazine and other music, lifestyle and news media properties. Responsible for creative media production to promote Maxim, Blender, Stuff and other Dennis Publishing brands both on television and online, the group is using 844/X to increase its creative edge in delivering highly visual content that speaks to a next-generation demographic.

"844/X is unstoppable as a solution for working with unlimited-layer content," said Dennis Media Group's Director of Digital Media Chris Phoenix Chris Phoenix may refer to:
  • Chris Phoenix (nanotechnologist) (born 1970)
  • Chris Phoenix (producer)
, who creates teasers and spots for television, as well as content that runs on the web sites for Maxim Magazine (www.maximonline.com), Stuff Magazine (www.stuffmagazine.com) and Blender Magazine (www.blender.com). "The beauty of the system is that it combines very strong compositing features with a suite of editing tools, all within a super-fast environment. 844/X is ideal creatively for the branding work we do, which relies heavily on multi-layer design, color, form and motion."

In a project exemplary of the department's day-to-day assignments, Dennis Media Group recently utilized 844/X to create a Web spotlight to generate buzz for the October print coverage of Maxim's "Cars of the Year 2003" feature. Taking footage of ten different dream cars - Hummers, Cobras, Maseratis and others test-driven along a Pennsylvania speedway, the team created a high-quality, high-action trailer for the Internet. The piece, like many the division creates, was also distributed for pickup by entertainment agencies such as Extra and Entertainment Tonight.

visual, Dennis Publishing needed a system that could keep pace with its high-interest content," said Dave Cobosco, vice president of marketing at Media 100. "With a real-time environment combined with incredibly pristine 10-bit video throughput, 844/X ensures great-looking images that can be combined effortlessly ef·fort·less

When Dennis Media Group first began editing Web content a year ago, it looked to Media 100 and its Media 100 i/xs system for workflow flexibility and value. Today, as evidenced in its 844/X purchase, the department still values Media 100's approach to creating open and innovative solutions for a changing market. Whether it's developing a teaser-trailer showcasing the Maxim swimsuit issue, or working with internal marketing departments to create video presentations, Dennis Publishing expects 844/X to further enhance the creative workflow on projects from start to finish.

"844/X is an integrated, open solution for our editing and effects compositing needs, and with the product being 10-bit based, material that comes through the system looks beautiful," Phoenix remarked. "At the front end, we can color correct in real time with precision and immediacy im·me·di·a·cy

Since we've installed 844/X, people have constantly been asking what systems our projects have been done on, logically assuming that we've acquired significantly more expensive high-end online gear.
