Maxicare signed a $6.2 million, five-year lease for 86,000 square feet in the 1.2 million-square-foot complex, which is now 95 percent leased.

Representing the building's owner, Transamerica Corp., was Brian Edwards, also of Cushman & Wakefield.

While downtown L.A. office space is usually more expensive than comparable space in the LAX area, Maxicare is actually paying a lower rate on its new space, Planting reported.

The new space was leased for about $1.20 a square foot per month, vs. about

$1.40 a square foot Maxicare was paying on its former LAX-area space.

Meanwhile, the 260,000 square feet of space Maxicare vacated at the Union Bank Center at 5200 W. Century Blvd. near LAX remains virtually empty, Planting said.
