In his presentation the chairperson recalled that the first national IEP of the CEB covering the period 2003-2012 aims to optimise the use of existing power system and ensure least-cost capacity expansion. It also encourages customers to participate in energy efficiency and conservation and provides for continued private opportunities in the electricity sector.
Various strategies listed out in the IEP 2003-2012 have been implemented and that a total capacity of 237.57 MW have been installed, namely at Compagnie Thermique du Sud, Compagnie Thermique de Savannah and at St Louis station. Other projects initiated include the rehabilitation rehabilitation: see physical therapy. of phase 1 and 2 of Fort Victoria (90 MW); La Nicoliere Feeder Canal (350 kW); and Sotravic Landfill Gas (2 MW). In 2012, the CEB signed a contract for the installation of a wind farm at Plaine Sophie.

The Plan, which has been formulated by using only in-house expertise, constitutes an invaluable set of information to the Government, investors, business partners, NGOs, academia, customers and the community.
