Matthew Wright's column: NOW RACE RUNS.
Race, 32, joined the show in September last year as Jackie, the sister of nightclub boss, Steve Owen.
But after only four months on the top-rated soap Race has decide to leave in order to pursue other acting jobs.
She tells me: "I've really enjoyed myself working on EastEnders but I feel that I've done as much as I can on the show and I'm looking forward to new challenges."
This is the third surprise departure from the show in the last month.
A week ago Roberta Taylor, 51, who played Irene told the show's producers she wanted out.
She'd intended to leave last year but changed her mind when she read the storylines.
And last month I also revealed that actress Troy Titus-Adams had been given the boot from the show. Troy, 28, who played barmaid Nina Harris, was told that her contract would not be renewed when it runs out in April.
The part was a big break for Troy, who previously starred in the West End musical Starlight Express as Wren.
EastEnders bosses had wanted Troy to take over where Martine McCutcheon's character Tiffany, left off in the soap.
