The new Mathematica technical computing system release, version 4.2, features full XML XML
 in full Extensible Markup Language.

Markup language developed to be a simplified and more structural version of SGML. It incorporates features of HTML (e.g., hypertext linking), but is designed to overcome some of HTML's limitations.
 support and seamless Java integration. Users can access any Java program from within Mathematica and work directly with XML data and documents.

Programmers can take advantage of the included Java Runtime Environment The combination of the Java Virtual Machine, the core class library and supporting files, all of which are required to run a Java program. See Java and Java Virtual Machine.  to create Java-based user interfaces or to make use of standard Java libraries in Mathematica. Other improvements are in the content areas of linear programming, statistics, optimization, combinatorics combinatorics (kŏm'bənətôr`ĭks) or combinatorial analysis (kŏm'bĭnətôr`ēəl) , graph theory and technical publishing.
