AEC/HYDRECLAIM

AEC/WHITLOCK

Complete pneumatic materials-handling systems include individual and central vacuum-loading systems and continuous vacuum/pressure loading/unloading systems for rates to 25,000 lb/hr. COMET AUTOMATION SYSTEMS INC.

Central vacuum-conveying systems automate conveying of material from storage to processing machine. Filterless vacuum receivers made of stainless steel for longer production life. System enables fines and dust to be removed from material and transported down the vacuum line to the central safety filter. Microprocessor control scans and loads up to 32 vacuum receivers. Systems easily expandable for future integration of scrap granulators, dryers, and blending systems. Modicon or Allen-Bradley controls can be provided to accommodate special requirements.

Single-station hopper loaders of stainless steel ensure long, corrosion-free life and quick cleanup. Features include cloth filter with air-pulse operation, which guarantees efficient filter cleaning. "Swing-Base" lid provides easy access to hopper and loader flap for quick cleaning. CONAIR

Self-contained loaders with lid-mounted vacuum motors include DustBeater and MicroLine series and modular Z-loaders. All available as direct-feed units with glass viewing chambers in carbon or stainless steel. K-Loader small central-vacuum receivers available with 8 or 33 oz viewing chambers to minimize on-machine inventory. Direct-feed loaders mount directly on machine throat to provide a preset material inventory, which allows fast materials changes.

CAML series compressed air loaders expanded with four new models: CAML-LPS low-profile loaders for filling bins and hoppers supplied with lid and internal cartridge filter; CAML-LPL is similar but includes a larger external filter on its lid for dustier materials; CAML-M provides low capacity, direct feeding into machine throat or to feeder bins; and CAML-EV evacuator designed for filling drums or bins from a variety of sources.

Larger-capacity conveyors include DuraLoad series in sizes from 8- to 25-in. diam. and per-load volume capacities from 0.14 to 3 cu ft and Filterless loaders with capacities to 4 cu ft. These receivers are filled by remote vacuum pumps and can be used singly or in multiples for filling rows of machines. Customizing options include positive discharge of materials, ratio loading of regrinds, or as direct-feed loaders for JIT loading in larger quantities over longer conveying distances. Filterless receivers prevent excessive carryover of fines and dust into the central dust collector and allow conveying pelletized or coarse-powdered (100+ micron size) materials without changing loading equipment and with a minimum of maintenance. Both units can be configured as self-contained loaders and field converted to central vacuum-loading receivers. Available in carbon or stainless steel. Quiet vacuum pumps for single-station or central-system loading reduce conveying noise.

Powerfil integrated, mobile, platform-mounted vacuum system can include a wide selection of receiver styles and loading functions. System includes integrated, peripheral vacuum pump of 3-, 4- or 6-hp, dust collector, and control console for up to two loading stations.

Central vacuum system controls include Selectronic series (115- or 24-VAC) with single cable, individual station, and remote controls expandable to additional stations within the limit of the vacuum pump's capacity. Selectronic puts local control at each vacuum receiver. Sentral control system provides centralized control and includes Allen-Bradley, PLC-based panel with full-color touchscreen interface. It allows multiple vacuum-pump operation for loading up to 40 use points through add-on modules. Controls have separate operator interface and I/O modules and can limit access through password lockout.

Dry-air conveying systems move moisture-sensitive materials in JIT quantities to machine throats using low dew-point air as the conveying medium. Single or multiple use points can be filled.

Bulk-conveying and railcar-unloading systems can include vacuum pumps to 50 hp or vacuum/pressure pumps for higher-rate, longer-distance conveying. Variety of storage silos offered including exclusive, spiral-wound, aluminum. Spiral silos in sizes to hold up to 5700 cu ft. Also welded steel, aluminum or bolted steel silos. CYCLONAIRE CORP.

Line of pneumatic-conveying systems includes dense, semi-dense and dilute phase. Specializes in hard-to-handle, abrasive or friable materials, railcar unloading of bulk materials, and in-plant batching and weighing.

DELTA/DUCON

Spira/flo spiral-grooved piping for pneumatic conveying of plastics. With Spira/flo grooved piping and elbows, pellets are kept away from the pipe wall, minimizing "angel hairs," without producing fines. Piping treated by the Spira/flo method will not have to be re-grooved after sustained conveying. The process presses a groove into the I.D., actually displacing metal as it forms the groove providing the turbulence necessary to keep the "pellets" away from the pipe wall and maintaining pellet shapes. Available in aluminum or stainless, Spira/flo comes in virtually all sizes with a five-year warranty.

DEMARCO MAX VAC CORP.

Max Vac vacuums clean up plant spills, convey, reclaim, load, unload, and pick up materials at points simultaneously with a central manifold system (portable, stationary, towable, or dump-truck mounted). The 2 to 300 hp units vacuum wet/dry and hazardous material. Features include material separation circuit, MAXcartridge Filter filtration system, and Silencer Base muffler. Custom designs available.

DINGS CO., MAGNETIC GROUP

Magnetic separators for removing ferrous metal from regrind and recyclable plastic. Products include magnetic drums, plates, pulleys, and overhead magnets suspended above conveyors. Magnetic drums have permanent magnets for continuous, low-cost separation and can be installed inside closed chutes, at outlets of chutes and hoppers, or where materials discharge from feeders and conveyors.

Hopper magnets feature a transparent drawer face for convenient monitoring and a slide gate that shuts off product flow. Hopper separator has magnetic 1-in.-diam. grate tubes with an assembly of ceramic or rare-earth magnet material inside. To produce a more uniform separating force, grates contain magnetic material. throughout the tube, and are not partially loaded with springs and fillers. Double bank of tubes ensures maximum separation.

Pneumatic bulk-transfer conveyors for pellets and powders, dry chemicals and food-grade products. ERIEZ MAGNETICS

E-Z Tec metal detectors in closed-aperture or single-surface models detect metallic contaminants of 1% of minimum aperture dimension. Accommodate wide range of product speeds from 2 ft/mm to 8800 ft/mm. Include solid-state electronics, crystal oscillator for stable drive-frequency reference, and variable-oscillator drive voltage that optimizes product phasing and sensitivity.

Rare-earth magnetic separators (grates, traps, plates, rolls, and tubes) remove weakly magnetic or very fine iron contaminants from dry bulk or liquid products. Use Erium 3000 permanent magnetic power source, said to develop up to 25 times the pull of conventional materials. Separators can be designed into new processing lines, and existing housings and bodies can be retrofitted with RE assemblies.

Simple, rugged mechanical conveyors handle a variety of bulk materials. Single-mass and two-mass vibrating systems excited by motor-driven eccentric shaft. Compact, straight-line, low-profile design allows easy maintenance.

Electro-permanent magnetic bin vibrators move sticky, hard-to-handle bulk materials in bins, hoppers, and chutes. Units apply concentrated vibration and positive drive in two directions and feature dust- and wear-resistant housing with no sliding or rotating parts. FLEXICON CORP.

Materials-handling systems for powdered and bulk plastics products include complete systems from storage to process, as well as reclaiming systems.

Flexible screw conveyor does not utilize air, filters, or cyclone separators. Screw is the only moving internal part and can convey materials in any direction. Suitable for resins and other materials containing dust or powder.

Model 1450 Bev-Con spiral conveyor transports difficult-to-convey resins, pigments, and additives such as titanium dioxide, carbon black, and calcium carbonate, as well as solids containing moisture, oil, or other materials that could cause caking under pressure or frictional heat. Max. throughput is 1800 cu ft/hr. Optional speed controller can reduce throughput to 2 cu ft/hr.

FOX VALVE DEVELOPMENT CORP.

Venturi Eductors with no moving parts transport pellets and powders. Can replace rotary airlocks in conventional, positive-pressure pneumatic conveying systems. Using motive air at 3-14 psig, systems are said to entrain and transport materials with less wear and product degradation than airlocks. Production of "angel hair," threads, and fines is reportedly reduced or eliminated. Particularly useful when handling regrind or glass-filled resins, which can erode airlocks.

S.G. FRANTZ CO. INC.

FerroFilter electromagnetic separators remove fine magnetizable particles to submicron size from dry materials or fluids.

Standard units separate fine ferromagnetic particles. Special units separate paramagnetic particles. Units can be back-flushed or cleaned in place. Automated systems with controls for timed processing and cleaning cycles available.

Laboratory magnetic separators--Magnetic Baffler Laboratory (Model LB-1) and Isodynamic Separator (Model L-1)--separate minerals according to magnetic susceptibility.

HS series electronic, all-metal detector/separator for dry, granular, free-flowing products such as pellets and granules can detect and separate all metallic contaminants from 0.02 in. on up. EKS electronic separation system separates commingled plastic/plastic mixtures such as PVC/PE and PET/PVC and others. KWS electrostatic system separates any commingled, liberated mixture of conductive/nonconductive material such as aluminum/PET flakes and circuit-board router dust.

MATCON USA, INC.

Matcon Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) systems discharge materials from portable bulk-storage containers. Using Matcon's patented discharge/valve principle, each IBC has an "in-bin" cone valve at its discharge outlet. When the IBC is placed on its mating discharge station, the inverted cone connects with a probe within the station. Probe pneumatically raises the cone into the material and vibrates it, causing the material to break up and flow through the annular gap created by the lifted cone. Varying the cone's height and lift time allows for accurate metering of the material being discharged. Weigh frames and controllers are available for accurate batching or continuous feeding. Because the cone and probe create a dust-tight seal, IBCs can be filled, transported, and discharged with no dust contamination. Partially filled IBCs can be removed from the station with total containment of product. Containers are of stainless steel, mild steel or polyethylene with capacities in excess of 100 cu ft.

Plant-wide air systems to remove trim waste handle a wide range of densities, shapes, and types of plastic flash; film, foam, and sheet trim; and rejects. Automatic systems handle empty bags from compounding stations. The empty bag is lifted into a hood where a proximity switch vacuums the bag and surrounding fugitive dust. SAFELINE METAL DETECTION

Metal detectors with newly designed detector coil systems for enhanced sensitivity detect all types of metal (nonferrous, ferrous and stainless steel) in a moving stream of resin pellets or powder. Highspeed reject valve diverts contamination as small as 0.3 mm (0.12 in.) from the main flow. Monitoring system confirms valve has worked.

Fine-Sep plastic fines separators for free-falling dry pre- and post-consumer regrind and virgin pellets. Fines and dust are air-washed from the stock. Omni III microprocessor controls feature alarms to monitor system's performance and can control several individual systems through one central controller. Wide range of modular vacuum receivers allows flexibility in handling material from small injection molding machines to high-throughput extrusion lines. Railcar unloaders with single- or double-blower vacuum/pressure systems accommodate conveying distances exceeding 1000 ft.

Echo control system features a truly distributive control and differs from other microprocessor and PLC controllers where a central panel controls an entire system. It supplies an independent module at each device location (pump, vacuum chamber, blender, etc.). These modules, though independent, are in constant communication with each other via a power network link. By operating in a system failsafe manner, Echo system maintains its integrity in the event of a circuit failure, unlike other PLC and microprocessor controllers where the entire system fails. Simple two-wire power communications cable is the only requirement to link devices, greatly reducing the cost of electrical installation and hardware. Modular and flexible, additional devices can be added as the need for manufacturing expansion increases. Because of the modular design, a central annunciator and panel is supplied for total system overview.
