A new additive masterbatch for LDPE, LLDPE, and EVA removes taste- and odor-causing molecules from food-packaging films, trash bags, extrusion coatings, pipe, molded containers, and beverage caps. Masterbatch 101787 from Ampacet Corp., Tarrytown, N.Y., contains high-surface-area zeolites that are highly porous and preferentially adsorb smaller, odor-causing molecules, especially ammonium-based and polar compounds. Since it is moderately hydrophobic, it is said to readily remove organic and inorganic compounds in the presence of water.
