PURCHASE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 29, 2002

MasterCard International today announced that its member financial institutions have recently been awarded extensive contracts to provide integrated payment solutions for the governments of France, Canada, Norway, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. Several agreements with the governments and their agencies represent the first comprehensive purchasing program to be implemented in their respective countries, setting the stage for MasterCard to share global best practices between the public and private sectors. In addition, these agreements - all secured over the course of the past year - generate significant global momentum for MasterCard's payment and expense management solutions within the public sector.

Some public sector entities have recently issued mandatory directives to move entire operations online to streamline processes. For example, the British government declared the aim of making all United Kingdom government services available electronically by 2005, and similar edicts have been issued by other governments. Customized MasterCard programs allow government agencies to automate purchasing and financial processes while reducing time, labor and costs.
