Massed choirs raise money for Cancer Research; Charity concert.


MORE than 1,600 singers from across the UK gathered in the Royal Albert Royal Albert may refer to several places named in memory of Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha:
  • Royal Albert Hall
  • Royal Albert Bridge
  • Royal Albert Dock
 Hall to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Choirs from Huddersfield and Calderdale were well represented in the Festival Of Brass And Voices.

It is thought that the North provided members of more than 30 male voice choirs and about 20 ladies' choirs to add to this spectacular concert.

The singers shared the platform with Brighouse and Rastrick and Grimethorpe Bands conducted by William Relton.

The chorusmaster and assistant musical director was Malcolm Fairless, who sings in Huddersfield Choral Society

Huddersfield Choral Society is an internationally famous choir based in the town of Huddersfield in the English county of West Yorkshire. It was founded in 1836 and is recognised as one of Britain's leading choirs.

The festival is held every three years and for Elland Male Voice Choir, this year's event has a special significance.

The choir, which is the only male voice choir in Calderdale, is celebrating its 60th anniversary and was delighted to be in the Royal Albert Hall during their milestone year.

The programme included the Hallelujah Hallelujah (hăl'əl`yə) or Alleluia (ăl–) [Heb.,=praise the Lord], joyful expression used in Hebrew worship; cf. Pss.  Chorus ( from Handel's Messiah), Pomp and Circumstance No1, the Overture - Rule Britannia and Deep Harmony, the hymn tune, dedicated to all touched by cancer.
