The strategic plan calls for using the Internet and other electronic resources to improve library services statewide. "Statewide resource sharing will eliminate much of the disparity between the reference services available to prosperous communities and smaller or poorer ones," says Robert Maier, head of library development at MBLC. "At the same time, it introduces economies of scale for everyone." He adds that the six month project gives Massachusetts citizens an opportunity to become familiar with electronic library resources. Maier reports that the selection decision was influenced by the success of statewide systems IAC developed for Ohio, and for academic libraries in Virginia and Alabama.
