Mass. teen indicted in school stabbingA 16-year-old student accused of blurting out, "I did it, I did it," after a classmate was fatally stabbed in a hallway at their high school was indicted on a first-degree murder charge, authorities said Thursday. Prosecutors said there was no prior relationship between the students when John Odgren stabbed 15-year-old James Alenson on Jan. 19 before classes began at Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School in an affluent suburb of Boston. In first- and second-degree murder cases in Massachusetts, anyone age 14 or older is automatically tried as an adult. He is being held without bail at a juvenile detention center. Odgren's attorney, Jonathan Shapiro, said it was "outrageous" that his client was being tried as an adult. "Massachusetts' criminal justice system is in the Middle Ages when it comes to the treatment of children," Shapiro said. Shapiro has said Odgren has hyperactivity dysfunction and Asperger syndrome _ a mild form of autism in which people can be intelligent but are unable to develop social skills _ and has been taking medications for many years.
