 book focuses on the life of Jeanette Rankin and how she, through hard work and dedication, became the first woman to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. Jeanette was a small-town Montana girl who helped run her family's ranch. She had many goals and dreams that she wanted to accomplish in her life. Jeanette attended and graduated from the University of Montana, during a time when many women didn't even finish high school. After successfully campaigning for women's suffrage The term women's suffrage refers to an economic and political reform movement aimed at extending suffrage — the right to vote — to women. The movement's origins are usually traced to the United States in the 1820s.  in Montana, she won her seat in Congress and helped to pass the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1919, being the only woman to cast a vote. Jeanette Rankin also was a strong peace advocate and her efforts toward that end are well-documented in this text.
