Martin Rees. (When words don't fail).For several years, I have been reading semi-popular books of cosmology cosmology, area of science that aims at a comprehensive theory of the structure and evolution of the entire physical universe. Modern Cosmological TheoriesPresent models of the universe hold two fundamental premises: the cosmological principle and the dominant role of gravitation.. Most recently, I have been rereading Martin Rees's Just Six Numbers, as I have trouble trying to comprehend the scales and magnitudes cosmology deals with, its vastness yet its measurable exactness. Escapist reading? As an artist I have attempted to somehow get into the mix of things, to effect a kind of reportage. It is of huge consolation to read and to conceive of the incommensurable abstraction and indifference of cosmic time to human affairs. Leon Golub, an artist based in New York, was the subject of a traveling survey exhibition spanning fifty years of his work that was on view at the Brooklyn Museum of Art Brooklyn Museum of Art, museum in the borough of Brooklyn, N.Y. Its predecessors were the Brooklyn Apprentices' Library (1823), the Brooklyn Institute (1843), and the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences (1890). Opened in 1897, the museum is located in a Beaux-Arts building designed by McKim, Mead, and White that has been substantially added to over the ensuing years, including a sweeping glass-roofed entrance pavilion (2004). this summer. |
