Other vignettes of children are offered up: a girl lying alone in a hospital bed, wounded in a bomb blast; a mute mute (myt), in music, device designed to diminish uniformly the loudness of a musical instrument.  orphan orphan: see adoption; foundling hospital; guardian and ward.
