Marrying science and religion? (Letters From Our Readers).I applaud you for devoting a cover story ("Stewards of the Earth," November/ December December: see month. 2002) to the important topic of religion and the environment. I think one of the most disastrous mistakes of the modern era has been divorcing science and religion. This separation has stolen the sense of sacredness sa·cred adj. 1. Dedicated to or set apart for the worship of a deity. 2. Worthy of religious veneration: the sacred teachings of the Buddha. 3. from life on Earth and commodified scientific discovery, putting it up for sale to the highest bidder HIGHEST BIDDER, contracts. He who, at an auction, offers the greatest price for the property sold. 2. The highest bidder is entitled to have the article sold at his bid, provided there has been no unfairness on his part. without moral scrutiny or guidance. Your coverage inspires hope that we will see the day when science and religion stop blaming each other and unite to work for a better tomorrow for all life on Earth. David B.
