Married with children.John Garvey's column on "Family Values family values pl.n. The moral and social values traditionally maintained and affirmed within a family. " (June 2) misses the point. All human associations are full of perverse per·verse adj. 1. Directed away from what is right or good; perverted. 2. Obstinately persisting in an error or fault; wrongly self-willed or stubborn. 3. a. patterns of feeling and behavior, including traditional families, same-sex partnerships, blended families Blended family A family formed by the remarriage of a divorced or widowed parent. It includes the new husband and wife, plus some or all of their children from previous marriages. Mentioned in: Family Therapy , and the free-form groupings favored by those who would have us "honor all families." There is no way of protecting children against being brought up in a sin-soaked world. Still, we need to raise our children, and it makes sense to ask what setup is best for them. I am still to be convinced that anyone has improved on the old-fashioned heterosexual family (not too rigidly understood). If that's so, we have every reason to be disturbed by a culture that supports divorce, and by the claim that gay and lesbian pairings are marriages or their moral equivalent. PHILIP E.
