"We ask the future married to tell the truth to each other," said Father Gelase Mugerowimana, a church spokesman. About 70 percent of the country's people are Catholic; Burundi has an HIV infection rate of about 6 percent.

Couples will not be required to reveal their HIV status but will have to present a certificate indicating they have been tested.
