Byline: The Register-Guard

THE COLOR and spectacle of an Academy Award-winning animated film comes alive at the Hult Center this week in a national touring company production of "Disney's Beauty and the Beast," opening Tuesday and running through Nov. 10.

AS ITS NAME suggests, the Duluth, Minn., band called Low is known for its emotionally heavy and extremely slow pop songs.The three-piece group is touring behind its sixth studio CD, "Trust." Low plays the WOW Hall on Tuesday.

NEW MOVIES

"Punch-Drunk Love" opens today at Cinemark.

"I Spy" and "Santa Clause 2' open today at Cinemark and Cinema World.

"Auto Focus" and "The Producers" open today at the Bijou Art Cinemas.

"Femme Fatale" is expected to open Wednesday at Cinemark.

ART SHOWS

The First Friday Art Walk begins at 5:30 p.m. today at Circle of Hands. Also on the tour: the play area near Olive Street and Broadway, New Frontier Market, Scan/Design and Jacobs Gallery.

Also having receptions tonight, but not on the walking tour: Bella Flora, Home Redesign Studio, OPN/EFN Gallery, Vivace Gallery and Temporarily Maude.

"Neurotheology," digital works by Audrius Plioplys, reception 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Adell McMillan Gallery, Erb Memorial Union.

Silk paintings by Merideth Ferrell, textured pottery by Linda Shaver, reception 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Island Park Gallery.

NEW PLAYS

"The Sea Is a Restless Whore" and "Waiting to Be Exiled," 8 p.m. today and Saturday in Villard Hall's arena theater at the UO.

"Drood (`The Mystery of Edwin Drood')' opened Thursday at South Eugene High School, "Stage Door" opens tonight at Sheldon High and "Star-Crossed Lovers" opens tonight at Churchill High.
