Maronite Patriarch visits Canada (Canada).Montreal--During March 14-26, Canada's 80,000 Maronite rite Catholics welcomed their spiritual leader on his first visit to this country. The Cardinal urged his Canadian faithful to stay connected to their tradition and liturgy. He is based in Lebanon, where he presently advocates the withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon, just as he objected earlier to the Israelis occupying his country. The Maronite rite is one of the oldest Christian communities in the Middle East. |
