A new marketing tool unveiled by Development Thunder Bay Thunder Bay, city (1991 pop. 113,946), SW Ont., Canada, on Thunder Bay inlet of Lake Superior. The city was created in 1970 by the amalgamation of the twin cities of Fort William and Port Arthur and two adjoining townships.  at the city's airport is a unique promotional vehicle that offers business clients and other passengers passing through the airport a quick glance at what Thunder Bay is all about, city officials say.

The airport investment mobile, unveiled on Nov. 30, hangs from the ceiling in the centre of the airport terminal, strategically placed between the airport's two escalators.

It stretches nearly four metres in width and measures two metres high; the graphics displayed on the mobile's panels include full-color collages of activities in the Thunder Bay economy, activities such as forestry, research, development and education.

Development Thunder Bay Manager Nancy Creighton says she is particularly pleased with the marketing mobile and the impression it will give to people who catch a glimpse Verb 1. catch a glimpse - see something for a brief time

"This mobile is just one more element of our overall marketing program and family of tools," Creighton says, noting that Development Thunder Bay also distributes brochures and has an established data base for direct-mail marketing direct-mail marketing

Additionally, Development Thunder Bay works with the Northwest Midwest Alliance - a group dedicated to seeking out new business opportunities in the U.S. Midwest - which has set up an office in Minneapolis, Minn.

"We have a number of advertising venues," Creighton says. "This is a little more impressive; it's more attention-grabbing than a poster."

The main graphic (on the mobile) of the Sleeping Giant Sleeping Giant may refer to:

"(The Sleeping Giant) has been continually used for the past few years as our focal branding picture for U.S.-directed advertising in site-selection and business-opportunity publications. We have a strong indication that maintaining this consistent imaging of Thunder Bay for our U.S. target market is working, and placing this mobile in the airport terminal will reinforce our message to the visiting business sector."

An estimated 80 per cent of the people passing through the Thunder Bay airport are business travellers, and Creighton is looking at targeting these passengers with the mobile.

"The graphics and messages on this mobile are positive, professional and reflect what Thunder Bay is all about," Mayor Ken Boshcoff This article or section needs sources or references that appear in reliable, third-party publications.
