Market diary.

After four weeks of gains, the market was essentially flat for the week ended July 27 following mixed economic news and concerns over China's currency revaluation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was off 0.5 percent to 10637.1 while the S&P 500 gained 0.1 percent to 1236.79 and the Nasdaq Composite Index fell 0.1 percent to 2186.22. The LABJ's index of 200 local stocks gained 0.1 percent to 128.65, with advances outnumbering declines 102 to 86 as 30 stocks hit new highs and only 3 fell to new lows. Leading all decliners was Molina Healthcare Inc., which fell 51.4 percent to a 52-week low of $22.35 on a negative profit warning. That pulled down the entire health care sector, which was off 6.9 percent. The leading sector was automotive/plastics/metals, which rose 5.5 percent, on the strength of Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., a metals company that has been buoyed by Chinese demand for raw materials. Leading all gainers was Global e-Point Inc., which jumped 86.3 percent to $6.39 after the release of the latest version of its video-security system designed to monitor public transportation systems followed the London subway bombings. Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. fell 13.9 percent to $3.10 after announcing that its upcoming redesign of TV Guide magazine is expected to sharply cut circulation and generate short term losses of $110 million.
