Laura Mather to Address Ramifications of Policy Changes to Domain Name System and Social Engineering Aspect of Phishing

SAN FRANCISCO -- MarkMonitor[R], the global leader in enterprise brand protection, announced that Laura Mather, Ph.D., senior scientist for MarkMonitor, will speak at the at the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) 2007 Fall General Meeting in Pittsburgh and the third Cyber Security Summit at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

The APWG 2007 Fall General Meeting will examine phishing's evolution on a global scale and reveal breaking news on counter-eCrime tools. Mather will moderate a panel titled, "Domain Name System Policy Working Group (DNSPWG)," a discussion that will include the status of the proposed changes to WHOIS by ICANN, domain tasting in regards to phishing, and general updates about the DNSPWG.

The third Cyber Security Summit, co-hosted by the University of Tennessee, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Fountain College of Technology, and the Tennessee Valley Authority, will bring together government, corporate and academic professionals to examine the human aspect of cyber security. Mather will lead a discussion titled, "The Social Engineering Aspect of Phishing," that will examine social engineering techniques, such as fear tactics and social networking attacks, in addition to traditional techniques, such as pharming and malware, which convince Internet users to unknowingly disclose personal and financial information.
