Mark Myers.

One of Mark Myers' favorite quotes is by Dale Carnegie: "Flaming enthusiasm, backed up by horse sense and persistence, is the quality that most frequently makes for success."

Myers, who shifted his career to a new position last year, likes to say: "What I'm missing in talent, I make up for in enthusiasm. That may only carry me so far, but it certainly has helped in so many ways."

Title | Client Service Director

Company | Resources Global Professionals, Nashville, Tenn., with seasoned professionals in finance and accounting; information management; human capital; supply-chain management; legal and internal audit.

Born | Columbia, S.C.; February 1959.

Spouse | Karen Starr, married 16 years.

Children/Grandchildren | Two adult stepdaughters, Kary and Kathy. Through them and their husbands I have five step-grandchildren, between the ages of 2 1/2-13. Though I don't have any children of my own, being "Grandpa Mark" is an absolute joy.

Education | B.S., Summa Cum Laude in Accounting & Business Administration, Trevecca Nazarene University (1981); MBA, Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management (2004).

Career Summary | (All in Nashville) Hirsberg & Byrd, Staff Accountant (1981-83); Allen Davis & Vaughn, Senior Auditor (1983-89); Cherry Bekaert & Holland, Audit Supervisor (1989-91); Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, Audit Supervisor (1991-93); Barge Waggoner Sumner & Cannon (engineering firm), Controller (1993-2008); Resources Global Professional, Client Service Director (January 2008-present).

Board of Directors | (Served as a Board Member and Officer of the Alcohol & Drug Council of Middle Tennessee and the Nashville Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants.

FEI Chapter | Nashville Chapter, since 2005; former Chapter President, Chapter VP of Membership and VP of Programs. Also served on a Membership Expansion Task Force Committee, an FEI national initiative in late 2006-07. Currently serving on the Summit Planning Committee and will be Conference Chair for Summit 2011.

Leisure Pursuits | My favorite hobby is ballroom dancing, which I've done since 1987. I taught part-time for about a year when I started as a means to get my initial basic training "free."

Early on, I competed as an amateur. When Karen and I married, we competed for a short period as an amateur couple. We now only dance socially but always get comments from friends and strangers that we always look like we're having fun. That's an understatement!

Time Management | This is still a work in progress for me, but my primary scheduling tool is Outlook. I attempt to focus on one thing at a time. Sometimes time management feels like "dancing," always focused on the "step at hand," moving with the flow of what's important, staying alert to how to recover when a step doesn't go so well and having fun with it at all times.

Stress Management | My most effective technique for both stress and time management is sticking to the one task at hand, although very difficult to do in today's complex business world.

To break the monotony, I like "mindless tasks" such as those "super-easy crossword puzzles"--where most of the answers are four letters or less.

Favorite Job | My current job provides me the opportunity to connect with people and business executives and help them be successful in their individual and business endeavors.

When one of my friends learned I was making a career shift, she wondered how I was successful as an accountant. My answer to that is during most of my career, I enjoyed what I was doing. However, as I began to learn what I enjoyed doing the most, it became apparent that my new role is where I would achieve the most success.

As Dale Carnegie once said: "You never achieve success unless you like what you are doing."
