The name is derived from the large waterfall in the Hudson River at the southern base of the city. , received the American Society of Newspaper Editors award for editorial writing during the ASNE's annual convention in Washington, D.C.

Judges praised his "pointed and persuasive ways," adding: "He gets quickly to the point, exhibits humor humor, according to ancient theory, any of four bodily fluids that determined man's health and temperament. Hippocrates postulated that an imbalance among the humors (blood, phlegm, black bile, and yellow bile) resulted in pain and disease, and that good health was  when appropriate and shows a broad range. Most important, he never leaves his point-of-view or suggested remedies in doubt."
