SAN MATEO San Mateo (săn mətā`ō), city (1990 pop. 85,486), San Mateo co., W Calif., on San Francisco Bay; inc. 1894. It is a commercial and retail center with some high-technology manufacturing. San Mateo, Spanish for St. , Calif. -- Mark Logic(R) Corporation today announced the general availability of MarkLogic Server(TM) 3.1, the latest version of its leading XML XML

content server. New features available in MarkLogic Server 3.1 include more powerful search, an innovative new XML classifier, point-in-time queries, XML lexicons, plus major performance enhancements.

"Mark Logic's software tools are enabling us to explore ground-breaking new ways to present our content to customers, for our customers to interact with our content, and for us to interact with our customers," said Doug McLaurine, vice president, content systems for John Wiley John Wiley may refer to:

MarkLogic Server 3.1 New Features and Capabilities

--More powerful search - The heart of any content application is finding and retrieving relevant content. MarkLogic Server 3.1 adds new functionality to its already potent search capability, enabling businesses to create added value Added value in financial analysis of shares is to be distinguished from value added. Used as a measure of shareholder value, calculated using the formula:

Added Value = Sales - Purchases - Labour Costs - Capital Costs
for their users. For example, MarkLogic Server 3.1 introduces multiple, selectable relevance algorithms - not just a single 'black box' - that lets businesses tune relevance so they can differentiate from their competitors or more readily find specific types of information. In addition, MarkLogic Server 3.1 allows 'deep jumps' into large result sets, enabling applications to sample results or explore the 'long tail' of query results. Finally, MarkLogic Server 3.1 returns normalized confidence ratings for query results, letting businesses present content based on absolute or relative relevance.

--Innovative XML classifier - Until now, most classifiers have been only able to handle raw text, and as a result have had their greatest success when documents are relatively small and primarily about a single topic. The XML classifier in MarkLogic Server 3.1 is a major breakthrough, allowing businesses to classify clas·si·fy

2. To designate (a document, for example) as confidential, secret, or top secret.
a document based not just on its text but also by understanding its XML structure. In addition to giving businesses control over which elements of a document will be most relevant for classification, this powerful capability enables large documents to be accurately classified based on any number of XML elements. Now businesses can accurately classify not only short, single-topic documents, but also longer, more complex documents.

--Point-in-time queries - MarkLogic Server 3.1 adds the ability to query a contentbase as of a particular moment in time. This feature is useful for recalling different versions of content as they have existed over time, for providing a consistent view of the contentbase within a user session, for cutovers between test and production systems, and for record-tracking and compliance applications.

--XML lexicons - This feature enables businesses to manage XML-aware lists of words or values that appear in the contentbase. XML lexicons let businesses build content applications that include automatic query completion, guided navigation, and query drill-down and refinement.

--Major performance enhancements - Already known for its high performance against large XML contentbases, MarkLogic Server 3.1 adds numerous performance improvements. Examples include: up to 50 percent performance improvement for index resolution in large results sets; cached search results use in similar queries; and, pre-parsed and stored XQuery modules, which accelerates the execution of frequently performed queries.

--Expanded platform support - MarkLogic Server 3.1 expands operating system operating system (OS)

"We are seeing the rise of a new generation of content applications -- applications that fuse content and enterprise business processes," says Melissa Webster, program director at IDC. "These applications will rely on standards, such as XML, that can transform content and make it intelligible to automated au·to·mate

MarkLogic Server unlocks the value of content by enabling businesses to load, query, manipulate, and render content.

--MarkLogic Server loads XML content 'as is,' eliminating the need for the detailed analysis and costly efforts required to 'shred' or 'chunk' documents.

--MarkLogic Server has the most powerful and complete XQuery implementation. XQuery, a W3C-standard, is a flexible programming language for XML content.

--MarkLogic Server is fast and scalable, capable of delivering millisecond One thousandth of a second. See space/time and ohnosecond.

query response times against multi-terabyte contentbases.

"Whether it's a dynamic content delivery platform that empowers professors to create custom textbooks, an airline's electronic flight manual, or a content analysis application used by federal intelligence analysts, our customers are the leading-edge of the content application revolution," said David Spenhoff, vice president of marketing at Mark Logic Corporation. "The new features and performance enhancements in MarkLogic Server 3.1 are exactly what our customers have asked for. MarkLogic Server is hands-down the best platform for XML content."
