Marine Corps Taps Expand Networks for HSWAN Project, Sees 500 Percent Improvement.

ROSELAND, N.J. -- Please replace the release with the following corrected version due to multiple revisions.

The corrected release reads:

MARINE CORPS TAPS EXPAND NETWORKS FOR HSWAN HSWAN High Speed Wide Area Network  PROJECT, SEES 500 PERCENT IMPROVEMENT

--Expand's Compass Platform Optimizes Satellite Communications for Government On-The-Move Initiatives and Enterprise Remote Office Support

--Expand Networks to Speak at Military Technologies Conference

With slower performance and retransmission Retransmission might refer to:
  • Retransmission (data networks), the resending of packets which have been damaged or lost
  • Replication of a signal at a repeater
delays, application use over satellite links is not only frustrating, it lowers productivity. However, as a part of Expand Networks' (www.expand.com) recently unveiled Expand Compass platform, the Company brings satellite network performance up to the level where high productivity becomes the reality. Based on Expand's satellite communications (SATCOM (SATellite COMmunication) Refers to the field of communications via satellite. ) expertise, the Marine Corps selected and implemented Expand's application acceleration solutions in its Horn of Africa Horn of Africa, peninsula, NE Africa, opposite the S Arabia Peninsula. Also known as the Somali Peninsula, it encompasses Somalia and E Ethiopia and is the easternmost extension of the continent, separating the Gulf of Aden from the Indian Ocean.  Support Wide Area Network (HSWAN) project. Since implementing the devices, the Marine Corps has seen a 500 percent performance improvement.

Expand Networks is the sole vendor selected by U.S. land, air and sea forces for all on-the-move programs. In this capacity, from 10:15-10:45 a.m. ET on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, Howard Teicher, vice president of federal and strategic business for Expand Networks, will be delivering the presentation, "Optimization of SATCOM on the Move Satcom On The Move (SOTM), or satellite communications on the move, is a phrase used in the context of mobile satellite technology, specifically relating to military ground vehicles. " at the Military Technologies Conference (www.miltechconference.com) taking place at the Hynes Convention Center The John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center located in Boston's Back Bay has 193,000 square feet (0 m) of exhibit space and can accommodate up to four concurrent events.  in Boston.

SATCOM has long been challenged by limited bandwidth, latency, bandwidth-intensive applications and constantly changing tactical priorities. Teicher's presentation at the Military Technologies Conference will discuss strategies to overcome these obstacles, including how to optimize network performance, squeeze maximum efficiency out of limited bandwidth, overcome latency, and enable network centric communications at every level of the battlefield.

Marine Corps in Horn of Africa Turns to Expand Networks for Satellite Communications

The HSWAN project provides combined voice and data capabilities among Camp Lemonier Camp Lemonier (or Camp Le Monier) is a United States Navy base, specifically a Forward Operating Site[1], situated in Djibouti and is home to Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) of the United States Central Command.  in Djibouti, Africa, the U.S. Embassies, the Ministries of Defense and the Commander, Combined Joint Task Force deployed teams. After careful evaluation and stringent testing last summer, the Marine Corps selected Expand's Accelerator 6840 devices for its mission-critical project. The Marine Corps has seen a 500 percent increase in performance improvement with the Accelerators for applications such as the Internet, e-mail and the Marine Logistics Database.

"After looking at Expand Networks' performance data, making a decision for our project was quite clear," said a Marine Corps Systems Command Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM) is located at MCB Quantico. Mission

Officer. "Expand's optimized SCPS-based acceleration greatly improves the reliability of our links, counteracting retransmission delays. This enables our mobile network to perform comparably to a command center network by dramatically increasing bandwidth throughput, speed and application responsiveness."

The Marine Corps SWAN is a satellite and Internet protocol See Internet and TCP/IP.

Expand Networks' HSWAN technology's ease of use during tests and resulting accelerated performance data were critical to the Marine Corps' key performance parameters of the communications system. Expand's QoS capabilities, which prioritize important communications, and their compliance with the Defense Information Systems Agency's SCPS SCPS School of Continuing and Professional Studies

"Effective collaboration and communication across thousands of miles between military and governmental agencies is not an option for on-the-move programs - it's a requirement. But, the successful transformation of military communications Military communications, or Signals, is a field of military activities, tactics and equipment dealing with communications. First of all, military communications are battlefield (combat) communications, including intercommunication with a higher command or country's  depends on the integration of emerging technologies in a network centric environment that overcomes the physical limitations of existing networks," said Teicher. "The Expand Networks' Compass enables more users to operate over narrow satellite connections, expands satellite bandwidth, reduces traffic collisions and overcomes the effects of latency."
