For the first time, information system (IS) developers and Internet providers can easily deliver geographic analysis applications on Web-based and corporate networks. The Internet and intranet are becoming common ground for developers and end-users: server technology allows developers to maintain control of corporate data assets and software while end-users have direct access to applications through standard Web browsers The following is a list of web browsers. . Rather than install MapInfo software on every desktop, the MapInfo ProServer product suite lets developers use client/server networks to deliver Web-based desktop mapping applications for concurrent end-user access across the enterprise.

With on-line mapping applications, corporate data can be accessed dynamically for geographic analysis and visualization. For example, a customer service representative helping a customer "find the nearest" branch or retail outlet retail outlet npunto de venta

can immediately see the closest sites to the caller's location. In addition, a business development analyst proposing a bold acquisition strategy can conduct a geographic analysis showing revenue performance by territory, along with post-acquisition growth projections based on demographics for key markets.

"Corporations around the world realize the value of geographic analysis for strategic advantage and decision support," said Elizabeth Ireland, vice president, marketing, MapInfo Corp. "The issue has been smooth, cost-effective deployment of the technology across the enterprise. Now, with MapInfo ProServer, IS can efficiently distribute desktop mapping applications through Web browsers and client/server networks and reserve control of software and data. Best of all, this is an easy and productive transition for end-users."

. A large bank, for example, can deploy a Web-based MapInfo application across its intranet for multiple departments. In customer service, a bank representative can direct a customer in an unfamiliar city to an ATM within walking distance by seeing the caller's location in relation to the bank's ATMs.

Separately, business development analysts at the bank can use the same application for determining the best sites for new ATMs. By seeing the location of current ATMs, then analyzing the concentration of depositors by Census tract A census tract, census area, or census district is a particular community defined for the purpose of taking a census.
