Manweb chief is awarded an MBE.
Stewart Saunders was appointed managing-director of Manweb in 1999 after holding a number of posts in parent group ScottishPower.
He joined the former South of Scotland Electricity Board as a student apprentice before winning a scholarship to study electrical engineering at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He later worked for the board in network operations, planning construction and sales and marketing.
Following privatisation, he helped set up distribution and supply businesses of the newly-formed ScottishPower.
In 1997, he moved to Hong Kong on secondment to help China Light and Power Company, which serves 1.8m customers in one of the most densely-populated areas of the world.
He is a member of the North West Business Leadership Team and is a CBI representative on the North Wales Economic Forum.
Mr Saunders, who received his MBE in the New Year Honours List for services to the electricity industry, said: "I am honoured to receive the award.''
