Stewart Saunders was appointed managing-director of Manweb in 1999 after holding a number of posts in parent group ScottishPower.
He joined the former South of Scotland Electricity Board The South of Scotland Electricity Board, was formed as a result of the Electricity Reorganisation (Scotland) Act 1954. On 1 April 1955, the two southern Scottish Area Electricity Boards were merged into the South of Scotland Electricity Board (SSEB). as a student apprentice before winning a scholarship to study electrical engineering at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He later worked for the board in network operations, planning construction and sales and marketing.
Following privatisation, he helped set up distribution and supply businesses of the newly-formed ScottishPower.
