The Manitoba Branch UELAC held its annual luncheon on Tuesday, 16 January 2007 at the Masonic Temple in Winnipeg. Guest speaker for the event was Mr. William Neville, a Senior Scholar in the Department of Political Studies at the University of Manitoba. The theme of Mr. Neville's speech was Canadians and the Canadian Identity and the title was Reflections on Our Present Discontent. Former Winnipeg Mayor, Bill Norrie, was in attendance and introduced the speaker.

The annual luncheon is a wonderful event that allows the Branch to gain exposure in the community and the timing of this luncheon corresponded with the release of the new teachers' resource The Loyalists Pioneers and Settlers of the West that was on display for members and guests to peruse.

Ken's research goes back to his earliest known ancestor, Vincent Rongnion (Runyon, Runyan, Runnion, Runions), a Huguenot (French Protestant) from France who came to America with Phillip Carteret on the ship Phillip from Isle of Jersey to Elizabethtown in 1666.

The master of ceremonies of the event was Branch President, Barbara Andrew UE. Planning and arranging was looked after by Rod and Dianne Nerbas, Bruce Wood, Lynn Francis, Peter Rogers, Norm Pound and Tom Walker.
