Manitoba developing comprehensive approach to ADHD.


Manitoba has a new strategy for treating children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), formerly called hyperkinesis or minimal brain dysfunction, a chronic, neurologically based syndrome characterized by any or all of three types of behavior: hyperactivity, distractibility, and impulsivity. . Healthy Living Minister Kerri Irvin-Ross Kerri Irvin-Ross is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. She is a current member of the Manitoba legislature.

Irvin-Ross was born in a small farming community in Saskatchewan, and has a Psychiatric Nursing Diploma as well as a Master's Degree in social work.
 announced that the province is allocating more than $738,000 in annual funding to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary provincial program to help children living with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and their families and schools dealing with the issue.

"This new strategy builds on the existing strengths of the region's child and adolescent mental-health team," said Jan Currie, vice-president and chief nursing officer of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) is the governing body for healthcare regulation in an area of the Canadian province of Manitoba. Established in December 1999, the WRHA is one of 12 Regional Health Authorities in Manitoba responsible for coordinating health services in . "The multidisciplinary program will provide a range of interventions and services including assessment, consultations with mental-health professionals, treatment and family interventions."

The program will also provide information for parenting groups and educators, and support to physicians on best practices for drug treatments and intervention strategies.
