Manitoba beefs up child therapy.


WINNIPEG -- A new approach to provide $580,000 in additional therapy services for children, youth and their families was announced by Family Services and Housing Minister Christine Melnick Christine Melnick is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. She is currently a Cabinet Minister in the government of New Democratic Party (NDP) Premier Gary Doer.

Born in Winnipeg, Melnick received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba and subsequently
, on behalf of the Healthy Child Committee of Cabinet.

Pilot projects identified tested programs of coordination of services as possible solutions for current child therapy needs. The pilots were held in Central Region, Brandon, Norman Region, Winnipeg over the past year.

Areas to be improved include occupational therapy, physiotherapy physiotherapy: see physical therapy. , speech language therapy and audiology audiology /au·di·ol·o·gy/ (aw?de-ol´ah-je) the study of impaired hearing that cannot be improved by medication or surgical therapy.
