Mandela a great leader.

I READ Rajendra Aneja's 'A Tribute to Mandela' (GDN, July 24) and agree with him that South Africa's ex-president Nelson Mandela is a great leader and this man should be an inspiration to those who wish to pursue the path of righteousness.

Mandela is a titan, who fought for his country's independence from the apartheid regimes that ruled his country, spent 26 years in prison in harsh conditions and came out of it to become the independent country's first president.

He served his term of office and bowed out gracefully. I am sure that if he were still the president, he would have urged and convinced the despotic, dictatorial and maverick Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe to step down.

Mr Aneja, Mandela has written a book, Long walk to freedom. Being primarily a reader of non-fiction and autobiographies, I consider it as one of the best books to read.
