Management Announced for the New Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 2001

The newly launched Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, private philanthropic organization established in 2000 by Gordon Moore, co-founder of Intel Corp., and his wife Betty. The foundation funds projects in science and environmental conservation as well as programs in and around San  announced the first five members of its management team today -- a group of senior professionals drawn from the foundation community, the high-tech industry, the financial world, and corporate management.

The Foundation, a multi-billion dollar family foundation underwritten by Intel co-founder Gordon Moore Gordon Earle Moore (b. January 3, 1929 in San Francisco, California) is the co-founder and Chairman Emeritus of Intel Corporation and the author of Moore's Law (published in an article 19 April 1965 in Electronics Magazine).  and his wife Betty, was formed a little over three months ago (late November, 2000). , was named to lead the Foundation at its formation in November and formally assumed overall management responsibility at the beginning of February (2001).

In its start-up phase, the Foundation is assembling its staff and moving into temporary office space in San Francisco's Presidio. The new management team, which will report to Coleman, will direct the activities of a foundation with a worldwide reach and with special focus on education, science, and the environment.

Sherry Bartolucci, former Executive Vice President of Business Engineering Services for Bank of America, with extensive additional experience in operations management Operations management is an area of business that is concerned with the production of goods and services, and involves the responsibility of ensuring that business operations are efficient and effective. , leadership and human resources -- Chief Administrative Officer A chief administrative officer (CAO) is responsible for administrative management of private, public or governmental corporations. The CAO is one of the highest ranking members of an organization, managing daily operations and usually reporting directly to the chief executive .

Dan Martin, Director of the World Environment and Resources program of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, philanthropic institution founded 1978 by John D. MacArthur (1897–1978), owner of a prominent insurance company and other businesses, and his wife Catherine T.  -- Chief Research Officer.

Alice Ruth, former Senior Managing Director and Co-Director of Equity Research for Nationsbank Montgomery Securities and prior to that Senior Managing Director of Montgomery Securities -- Chief Financial Officer.

Ed Yoon, former Architectural Engineer, Microsoft Corporation and a former Microsoft Senior Technical Evangelist -- Chief Technology Officer.

As General Counsel, Suzanne Badenhoop has responsibility for all the legal affairs of the Foundation. In her 20 some years of legal practice, she developed special expertise in the areas of real estate and finance, including affordable housing and other Community Reinvestment Act Community Reinvestment Act (CRA)

As Chief Research Officer, Dan Martin is defining a relatively new type of position for a foundation. He is coordinating and integrating the projects funded in the Foundation's principal areas of interest, working with the heads of these projects on program design and clarity, and creating appropriate measures for determining the success of projects. Martin has an extensive background in science, education, and foundation management. Prior to his work with the MacArthur Foundation, Martin was president of the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation, a private foundation specializing in grant making in the areas of environment, population, and education, and was president of both the Cranbrook Educational Community Cranbrook Educational Community, at Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; est. and endowed by George G. and Ellen Scripps Booth in 1927. It includes the Cranbrook Academy of Art, with graduate programs in fine arts and architecture and a noted art museum; Cranbrook Institute of  and the Associated Colleges of the Midwest The Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) is a consortium of fourteen leading liberal arts colleges located in Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. It was founded in 1958 with the purpose of enriching the curricula of its member colleges in ways they could not . A graduate of Knox College, he earned a doctorate in political philosophy and international politics from Princeton University.

As Chief Financial Officer, Alice Ruth is managing the Foundation's investment portfolio and will oversee the Foundation's financial activities. She brings to the job a strong reputation in finance, having been ranked by Institutional Investor Institutional Investor

 and the Wall Street Journal among the country's top investment professionals. Alice holds an AB in economics from Dartmouth College.

As Chief Technology Officer, Ed Yoon is utilizing technology to advance the Foundation's programs and operations, is developing and refining systems and protocols inside the Foundation to achieve maximum speeds, reach, and access, and is working with grant applicants, grantees, and other organizations to develop standard data formats that can be used to share information broadly. Before joining Microsoft, Yoon was with Lotus as a Notes Engineer. Previously, he worked on various projects for the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C. Yoon did his undergraduate work at the University of Michigan (body, education) University of Michigan - A large cosmopolitan university in the Midwest USA. Over 50000 students are enrolled at the University of Michigan's three campuses. The students come from 50 states and over 100 foreign countries. .

Yet to be named are individuals to manage each of the Foundation's specific areas of interest. Procedures for grant submissions will be made available to all potential applicants via the Foundation's Web site, which is now in development and is expected to be in operation in May.
