Man suffering from psychological problems threatens people at Beirut's airport

A man suffering psychological problems stormed Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport on Monday and warned travelers that he was carrying "a suspicious bag," airport officials said. The man was briefly detained before being set free.

Authorities did not release the name of the 25-year-old man but said he was detained by police shortly after he entered the airport and started shouting, the officials added, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

Police did not find any illegal material in the bag the man was carrying, and judicial authorities ordered him to be handed over to his family for treatment after a medical exam proved he was suffering from psychological problems, the officials said.

Tension has been high in Lebanon following a series of bombings over the past few years that have targeted politicians, journalists and members of security and military agencies. The bombings claimed the lives of dozens of people.
