Man sought in death of Lebanon woman.

Kenneth Charles McPhail, 39, of Lebanon is wanted in connection with the murder of 20-year-old Melissa Dawn Bauer, Linn County Linn County is the name of four counties in the United States:

  • Linn County, Missouri
  • Linn County, Oregon
 Sheriff Tim Mueller said Thursday.

McPhail is considered armed and dangerous, Mueller said.

Court records show that McPhail was convicted of a felony in Marion County in 1994. He served his prison sentence in another state while in protective custody An arrangement whereby a person is safeguarded by law enforcement authorities in a location other than the person's home because his or her safety is seriously threatened. .

The sheriff said McPhail and Bauer knew each other. The nature of their relationship was not clear.

Bauer's body was discovered about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday in Larwood Park.

The sheriff's office was withholding how the woman died. She was wearing a blouse, jeans and tennis shoes, Mueller said.

The Linn County search and rescue team and divers searched the park for evi- dence.

Bauer had a child with Timothy Charles Sloat, 19, of Lebanon, against whom she filed a restraining order restraining order: see injunction.  for abuse earlier this year. The order was dismissed on Nov. 21 when both Bauer and Sloat failed to appear in court.

Sloat was arrested by Lebanon police the day Bauer's body was found. He was charged with stealing a car the day before.

Sloat was released Wednesday from the Linn County Jail pending trial on the felony charge.

McPhail was named as a suspect in Bauer's death Thursday, after an extensive investi- gation, Mueller said.
