The theft nearly led to his mother being evicted from an assisted-living facility that houses people with Alzheimer's disease Alzheimer's disease (ăls`hī'mərz, ôls–), degenerative disease of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex that leads to atrophy of the brain and senile dementia. .

Browning signed a plea petition acknowledging that he illegally withdrew about $141,820 from his mother's trust account from 2005 to April of this year.

The money was placed in the account after the sale of her home in 2005. Browning was put in charge of the trust and was responsible for using the funds to pay for his mother's living expenses, the petition states.

Instead, Browning wrote about 113 checks to himself, and did not pay his mother's rent. In July 2006, he learned that the assisted-living facility, Farmington Square in Eugene, intended to evict his mother because of the unpaid bill, the plea petition states.

An investigator confronted Browning about the money, and Browning admitted to spending it on himself, Morgan said.

Browning told the detective that he would pay back the money, but he did not, Morgan said.

"He said he was going to make it right (but) he kept writing checks even after the detective talked to him," Morgan told Circuit Court Judge Jack Billings at Tuesday's hearing.

Browning was arrested earlier this year and charged with 46 felonies. As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Browning entered guilty pleas Tuesday to 10 of those counts. In exchange, he received a five-year prison sentence.
