Man gets 15 years for shooting.Byline: Bill Bishop The Register-Guard For a shooting described by the prosecutor as a "sterling example" of the effects of methamphetamine, Shawn Jeffrey Whipple, 22, was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in prison for wounding another man over a misunderstanding about a drug debt. In a plea deal, Whipple admitted shooting the 26-year-old victim in the chest with a .38-caliber handgun early on the morning of June 20 along a rural road in the McGowan Creek area north of Springfield. He also admitted shooting the victim as he ran away, striking him again in the hand. Deputy Lane County District Attorney Erik Hasselman said Whipple and two other men thought the victim owed another man money for drugs, even though the man had shown them proof the debt was settled.
